On the contrary of most people when they are doing something they love, I didn’t choose Interior Design she chose me! It all began when I was a little girl. My parents had my childhood home built in Columbia, South Carolina. I watched our home go from an empty lot to wood and open walls, and all the way to the finished product on Move-In day. Of course I had no idea what was going on half time or how this effect the trajectory of my life. All I remember is going back and forth between furniture stores and tile stores and being bored out of my mind most of the time. I watched my Mommy literally design our entire home from intricate wall paper designs to custom curtains.
Clearly this gift runs in the Family! She even let me pick out the color scheme and design my own bathroom and playroom! At 7 years old, I think I did pretty well! Fast forward to my teenage years where my Mommy and I started to bond over HGTV shows like Fixer Upper, Property Brothers, and House Hunters. By the time I became a young adult in college I started to veer off and start developing some of my favorites like Flip or Flop and Love it or List it. I had no idea the wealth of knowledge I retained from watching these shows and how this would effect me later in life. Fast forward to 2017, I was halfway through my MBA coursework, I had just moved to the Washington DC Area, and started my new career with PepsiCo. that summer my Mommy went home to be with the Lord. I was devastated.
At 23 years old, juggling all these things the last thing I was praying about was a Business. However, God had different plans where in Fall of that year he told me to pursue a career in Interior Design. I promised to be obedient but only after I had completed my MBA. I chuckle when I say that now like who am I to try to boss the Lord around. Lol Anyways, I completed my MBA coursework in March 2018. I had my first client in May 2018, and completed my Interior Design Certification in July 2018. We officially launched Décor’d‘s website and Social Media to the world in February 6, 2019. I said all this to say that what is for you is FOR YOU! When God tells you to go, RUN! I hope that my story motivates someone who is questioning jumping into their purpose! Thank you for allowing me to share my story with you, see you soon!
